Developing well-rounded boys of character and accomplishment.
Omnis puer scitus et frater…every boy known, every boy a brother.
Wouldn’t it be great to have your son excited about going to school?
Field School is only a middle school and only for boys, and we enjoy our work and thrive as a place for boys to learn and grow. We emphasize hands-on learning, regular field trips, physical activity, inquisitive classes, and rigorous academics. We are a private school without any state-mandated testing requirements, so we can focus on broad and engaging work that will be most meaningful to your son. We believe that middle school is a time to explore and develop confidence, and so our program is well-rounded, exposing the boys to a wide variety of interests in academics, music, the arts, sports, and extracurriculars. Our boys become well versed and confident students. Learn more about admissions and upcoming open houses>
The Well-Rounded Boy
We believe boys thrive with excellent teachers with whom they believe they have strong relationships.
Our students generally have the same few teachers for four years, and we get to know them well. We also believe we can best build character and genuine empathy in boys through a small community that knows your son. With a caring and dedicated faculty, the character lessons at our school tend to make profound and lasting impressions.
Boys do their best work in a structured environment.
We thrive on a schedule that includes regular classes in Math, English, Latin or Spanish, Science and History. We have a daily 40-minute study hall at the end of every academic day when all teachers coach the boys on organization and are available for extra help.
Our graduates go to a wide variety of high schools, with a high percentage going to the county academies (MESA at Albemarle High School, ESA at Western Albemarle High School, and MSA at Monticello High School). Our boys generally move on to Charlottesville High School, Western Albemarle High School, Monticello High School, and Albemarle High School. Those who have continued to attend private schools have been admitted to and matriculated at Woodberry Forest School, Miller School, Georgetown Preparatory School, Episcopal High School, Tandem, St. Anne’s Belfield, and Covenant.
